Abstract

The magnetic tape cassette is for a recorder and contains two reels on which the tape is wound. By folding the tape in its travel four stereophonic tracks are useable at each of two levels to form a recorder with up to eight tracks. A plastic cassette case contains two reels (8,9) on which a magnetic tape (5) winds and unwinds. The tape is threaded via four pulleys (10-13) to form a Z-shaped path whose oblique arm (51) passes between the two reels. The pulleys enable the tape to form two parallel sections (52,53) behind windows (14,15) on opposite sides of the casing. The windows permit read or erase heads (7) to contact the tape. Supports on the exterior of the case ensure that the positioning is correct for the level of the heads w.r.t. the tracks.
