Abstract

The recording and playback of video information from magnetic tape is effected by a rotating pick-up with the tape looped around the drum at an angle corresponding to the track skew. The tape (11) from the storage cassette (7) is looped once around the drum (1) with a pick-up (6) located at the periphery. Guide rollers (8, 17) and blocks (9, 16) provide guidance for the tape in both horizontal and vertical planes. Dynamic effects result in an air film between the tape and the drum. Because the tape is wound helix fashion around the drum one track may be read by rotating the drum while holding the tape stationary. An adjacent track may be read by indexing the tape along one increment.
