Abstract

The endo-laryngo-tracheal measurement method consists in inserting in the laryngo-tracheal passage an inflatable flexible plastics balloon along the natural respiratory passages, using a catheter inserted either via a nostril or a tracheotomy orifice. The instrument (3) is then expanded so as to exert an even pressure on all the walls (1) of the passage, equal to or less than the capillary pressure present in them. The instrument can have a balloon-like or cylindrical section and is expanded by a medium under pressure, e.g. air or serum.
