Abstract

A sleeve for accepting the tip of a bolt passing through a drilled hole is moulded from a semi-rigid plastics material as a hollow boss with a flange to limit the depth of insertion of the boss into a drilled recess and with radial ribs large enough to bite into the walls of the recess sufficiently to inhibit rotation as the bolt is engaged. Pref. the depth of the ribs is 0.5-0.66 that of the depth of the sleeve and the ribs have bevelled ends. Lighter, more corrosion-resistant and simpler to make than equivalent metal sleeves. Pref. the sleeve has a square cross-section, partly slotted on the diagonals and with corners on the same radius as the edges of the ribs. Pref. the end of the sleeve bore is bevelled to facilitate entry of the bolt. Suitable for securing bolted fittings to particle board etc.
