Abstract

Telegraph posts, fence posts or posts for supporting advertising hoardings, road signs, etc. are fixed in the ground by a metal socket. The socket is made from two or more pieces of folded sheet metal of initially triangular form. A hollow square section is formed by folding part of the sheet along three parallel lines with each fold forming a right angled corner. One of these folded sheets is inserted inside the other and the assembly is then driven into the ground using a pneumatic hammer with a special mandrel.
