Abstract
The speed of a road vehicle is maintained reasonably constant for motorway journeys etc. freeing the driver from constant accelerator pedal changes. The regulation acts if speed variations exceed defined values. Speed measurement is either by an electrical contact on one road wheel or is taken from the ignition circuit and processed in an electronic logic circuit to provide control of a motor adjusting the carburettor butterfly valve setting. Regulation can be switched in or out by the driver who then presets the required speed on a potentiometer which is over-ridden electronically by the brake pedal. The logic circuitry controls both an electric motor setting the butterfly valve and an electromagnet operating a cogged wheel associated with the same valve.
