Abstract
An auto collimator has a return image position detector comprising a network of photodiodes. The angle of rotation is determined by counting the pulses from the origin and to the final pulse from the photodiode network as internal mirrors rotate. A lens (1) has a plane mirror (2a) located at the mid focal distance. This is located inside the auto collimator and is rigidly fixed to a structure (26) which is rotated. The axis of the structure is orthogonal to the optical axis (X-X) and a second plane mirror (3a) is similarly fixed to a second structure (3b) external to the auto collimator. The lens (1) is fixed to an optical assembly (4) comprising a Lummer cube whose semi transparent face (6) is parallel to a prism mirror (5). A fixed slit (7) is illuminated by a lamp and the light reflected from the mirrors is sensed by a photodiode array (8) for digital processing.
