Abstract

An arrangement controlling the movement of a puppet mouth or beak is synchronism with disc or tape recorded speech has a 6 to 9 volt dc motor (1) which drives a pulley (2) around which a wire (3) is wound, the wire being connected through support loops (8) to the lower part (6) of the beak. The upper part is fixed while the lower part pivots against the upper part on a hinge (4) coupling the two parts. One end of the lower part projecting into the hollow head of the puppet carries a counterbalance weight (7). When a syllable or word sound is played the sound is detected and drives the motor (1) to wind the wire and open the beak. When the sound ceases the motor stops and the weight of the counterbalance unwinds the wire closing the beak. A stop (10) limits the opening of the beak by limiting pivoting at the lower part.
