Abstract

The machine for compacting sheets (P) of material with a high moisture content, is used to prepare freshly made asbestos cement sheet for an artificial tile mfr. process, and subjects successive individual sheets to a compression with a simultaneous vacuum extraction of liberated water. Sheets (P) may be treated without interrupting their linear displacement across the machine, and may be fed by roller conveyor (1) to a calender (2). An endless conveyor belt of felt strip (13) may feed the fresh sheet (P) between the two vertically superimposed rollers (10,12) of the calender, the lower roller (10) being mounted in a vacuum housing (11). A moving plastics belt (14) may separate the upper rollers (12) from the sheet, and the line may include two such calender assemblies (2,4) between roller conveyors (1,5). A dipping table (3) may be sited between calenders (2,4) and adopts alongitudinal'V' profile to accommodate the extra sheet length due to pressing.
