Abstract

A grid aid for a car type has a pattern of elastic bars set in a staggered array from each side of the middle line of the tread. The bar ends nearest the middle are linked by elastic strips (5) and the free ends of the bars are linked by chains each side of the tread. The bars are moulded in one section with the central strips and have elastic grip patterns (13) which do not damage roads when running off the ice. The side chains are looped over the hooked ends of metal insert strips (26) embedded in the ends of the bars for a simple fitting. The elastic moulding is reinforced by metal or fibre inserts and flexes with the driving force.
