Abstract

A fire detection device comprises a piston (2) slidable in a tube (1) and biased towards a pushbutton switch (5) of an alarm circuit by a coil spring (3). The piston (2) is restrained by a wire (4) secured to the piston rod. The wire runs through an area to be protected so that a fire in the area heats the wire causing it to expand and thus allowing the piston to actuate the switch and sound the alarm or actuate fire extinguishing systems is desired. The wire may also be connected with various fore-destructible devices since a break in the wire has the same effect. The piston rod is screw-threaded to receive a nut (6) for adjustment. The tube also has a screw-threaded mounting bolt (7) to enable it to be secured to suitable supports.
