Abstract

The cable (10-actuated automobile disc brake uses recoil sprung levers (9) to pivot antagonistic cams (6) and cause the convergence of caliper (1) mounted friction pads (3) onto a wheel disc (2). A bushed (7) bolt (8) constitutes the fulcrum axle for both a lever (9) and its associated cam (6), and a threaded stud (13) with a hexagonal section head screws into a lever (9) bore to give an adjustable cam contact. A coil spring (12) is positioned between the free ends of the levers (9), effects the recoil action i.e. the retraction of the pads (3), and now has end buckles (12a, 12b) which lock the stud (13) against rotation. The buckle may be 'U' shaped in plan and may engage opposed stud flats (13a, 13b). A further development may be self-compensating, using a round section stud (13) guided by a strap slot hole, and using a strap notch to locate a pin on a stud-mounted one way free wheel.
