Abstract

The key is used on locks with axially sliding locking bits. These have a profile which discourages lock picking, whilst increasing permissable geometric lock and key combinations. It has a shaft (4) of a basic uniform circular cross section. Lock-actuating bits are formed by radial ribs (51-55) which project from the shaft, with different effective radial projections. These have different start points relative to the shaft tip (6). The ribs may be positioned at regular or irregular angular intervals, and positive key alignment in the keyhole may be provided by a continuous axial barrel groove (7a) or a full length rib (7b).
