Abstract

New enzyme compsns. for the hydrolysis of glycerol esters in aq. media comprise (A) ca 65-91 units of lipase from Rhizopus arrhizus and (B) ca 35-9 units of lipase from Pseudomonas fluorescens, per 100 units of total lipase present in the compsn. New reagent compsns. for determn. of the concn. of triglycerides in serum by hydrolysis of the triglycerides to glycerol and free fatty acids and measurement of the light absorption of a glycerol-contg. aq. liq. resulting from the hydrolysis comprise an enzyme mixt. as defined above, together with chemical reagents to bring about a change in the absorption of the aq. liq. which is proportional to the amt. of glycerol released in the serum. New process for the hydrolysis of glycerol esters and for the determn. of the amt. of glycerol esters present in aq. body fluids comprises incubating the fluid under investigation with an enzyme compsn. or reagent compsn. as defined above for ca 10 mins. to effect complete hydrolysis of the glycerol esters, and determn. of the hydrolytically released amt. of glycerol and/or fatty acids.
