Abstract

A laminate comprises superposed layers of opt. different compsns. each comprising a mixt. of: (A) 1-70 wt % cellulosic fibres and (B) 99-30 wt % olefin polymer contg. >=1 pulverulant inert inorganic filler, the polymer enveloping the cellulosic fibres and the filler and acting as binder between thesuperposed layers. The filler comprises 2-50(5-40) vol % w.r.t. polymer + filler. Prodn. of decorative laminates used e.g. in the furniture and building industries, and for electrical insulation. The laminates have high flexibility (can be used for non-planar surfaces), thermoformability, are free from colouration and have relatively low density compared to laminates based on cellulose and phenolic resins. The prepn. does not involve lengthy impregnation steps. The laminate can be given any colour by adding a colourant pigment.
