Abstract

The diesel engine (1) drives the rotor of a three-phase alternator (3) whose output terminals are connected to a rectifier (4). Between the rectifier and the asynchronous electric drive motor (2) there is an oscillator (5) whose natural switching is ensured by a synchronous compensator (6) connected in parallel with the oscillator. The frequency of the current produced by the alternator (3) is of the same order as the frequency which is to be applied to the async. motor. The synchronous compensator functions at the same frequency and at a speed proportional to the frequency. It is advantageous if the speed of rotation is as high as possible, so as to reduce its size. For example when the alternator turns at 1000 rev/min. the compensator may turn at 3000 rev./min. in the opposite direction.
