Abstract

The compound articulated joint may be used on a collapsible table with a flexible fabric top, connecting four legs (1-4) by their midpoints or thereabouts, and obtaining a collapsed state wherein the legs stack parallel one against the other. Twin forked plates are connected by an axle pin (8) through the flanges, the webs (5) each locating a fulcrum pin (10) for two legs. The pins (10) may be centred in the webs (5) and may align normal to the axle (8), securing a leg (3, 4) on each side of the web. An 'X' shaped leg system is thus fixed to each fork (9), having members (1, 2, or 3, 4) which can be brought into co-alignment or be set in any required angular relationship. In addn. the axle (8) allows the 'X' frames to be set in any angular relationship, and pinned hook stays (12) may brace leg pairs (2, 3) once extended.
