Abstract

The appts includes a pair of gripper plates (38, 39) located above a paper support plate (18). A recess (41) for a band (60) and a recess for a lever (81) are formed in the corresponding interior surfaces of the gripper plates. The sheets of paper are held by both gripper plates and are movable to the side of the lever for the application of the band so that a band is bent in the band recess in the gripper plate towards the height of the paper stack. The band is then pressed by the lever (81) into the lever recess so that it encloses the paper sheets. The enclosing band end (60) can then be glued to the other end of the band to bind the paper sheets together.
