Abstract

An underground shelter, partic. for petroleum against nuclear radiations, comprises a tubular gallery of horizontal axis constructed of prefabricated pipes in reinforced concrete assembled together so as to be gas-tight by being fitted into one another. The cost of such a shelter is considerably less than that of a standard shelter because the basic elements are available on the market and do not require special fabrication. They are easily laid requiring only a pipe handling machine and an appts. for longitudinal traction to enter the narrowed end of a pipe being laid in to the widened end of a pipe already laid. The flexibility of the joints allows for different settling of the ground without excessive resulting in the pipes.
