Abstract

Reducing transfer of chemicals between processing operations in cellulosic pulp prodn comprises: (a) forming a first pulp web (I) from pulp fibres and a first liquid phase; (b) applying a first fluid to (I); (c) applying a second fluid to (I); (d) evacuating a first filtrate from (I); (e) retaining in (I) a second liquid phase, the max. amt of the second fluid applied to (I) being equal to the second liquid phase, (f) treating the pulp fibres with a chemical prod. Process further comprises (g) forming a second pulp web (II) from the pulp fibres and a third liquid phase; (h) applying a third fluid to (II); (i) applying a fourth fluid to (II); evacuating a second filtrate from (II); retaining in (II) a fourth liquid phase, the third and fourth fluids applied to (II) being equal to the fourth liquid phase and (j) reusing at least a portion of the second filtrate as second fluid.
