Abstract

The mattress has pockets (2, 3, 4) in which stiffeners (8, 9, 10) can be placed to harden it as required. There are two series of longitudinal pockets which are superposed on either side of a double mattress. In a foam mattress the pockets are in the form of a slot and can be lined with a low friction material. The characteristics of the foam can differ on either side (11, 12) of the pockets. The stiffeners are plates (8), which can be perforated, or boards (9, 10), that can be connected or intersected and can be of any width desired. They can be superposed in the same pocket.
