Abstract

The pick-up comprises a number of magnets placed beneath the instrument strings to generate a strong magnetic field. Movement of the strings induces a current in them because of their very low impedance. The current is passed through a volume control and low frequency high impedance transformer. Harmonics are removed by filters with high and low frequency cut-off points. The signals from the cords are mixed in a switching circuit and amplified by a low power integrated circuit. The tone of the signals is controlled. The use of a magnetic field which is large in relation to the string vibration keeps distortion minimal. Non-magnetic strings may be used, for example, in chrome alloys, copper or titanium alloys, or in nylon-steel.
