Abstract

The ultraviolet lamp (10) includes two general supply electrodes (11, 12) and an HT pulsed signal supply electrode (13). A direct supply is provided for the two electrodes, and a high tension supply feeds Ht pulses to the third electrode. The lamp is housed in an elongate housing, at one end of which is a cooling fan (90). Around the lamp the container is double walled, with cooling air circulating past the lamp, out through holes in the first wall, and leaving the enclosure through the passage between the two walls. U V light from the lamp is directed towards the input of an optical fibre (97) mounted in a tapering section of the container at the end remote from the fan. This allows U V light to be directed to a small area of the body.
