Abstract
A device comprises two mobile plugs joined together by a cable. Each plug incorporates two pyrotechnic gas generators actuating respectively the clamping of the plug in the pipeline and the pressing of a joint against the inner wall of the pipeline. Press detectors, detectors of crushing of the pipeline and detectors of the presence of water initiate the operations. The two plugs are placed one on either side of the most curved part of the pipeline during laying. Damage accompanied by fissuring causes flodding only in the part between the plugs. The device eliminates all risk of sliding of the plug in case of failure of the locking mechanism of the plugs. The reliability of the plugs is increased by their doubling and by the fact that the systems supplying the energy are independent and always upstream of the corresp. joint, eliminating all risk of by-passing of the joint.
