Abstract

The equality comparator for 17 bits utilises negative logic in conjunction with current switching logic. This reduces power consumption and improves the speed of calculations. It comprises a number of exclusive or gates (601-617) each containing an emitter follower and upper and lower level gating circuits. The input signals (A1-17, B1-17) to the gates represent the two 17 bit words being compared. The gate output signals (01-17) represent the results of the individual comparisons and these are combined in groups of wire and circuits before being applied to the inputs of a four input AND gate (618). The gate outputs (619, 620) become logic high and low respectively when the signals are equal.
