Abstract

The automatic steering is for a vehicle, in which a sensor monitors the position of a floor mounted guide and acts as a feedback control for a hydraulic steering. The sensor is mounted at the end of a hydraulic ram which is extended when the hydraulic steering circuit is under pressure. The hydraulic servo force is supplied by a pump which also feeds the supply line to the sensor mounting. The sensor is automatically retracted, by spring pressure, when the servo is switched off. This minimises damage to the sensor.
