Abstract

Process invoves hydrolysing digestion using enzymes from microorganisms in aq. medium to form a glucide substrate and mineral sludge followed by anaerobic fermentation of the substrate. The anaerobic biomass is placed in a 1st digester and an aq. substrate at a temp. favourable for the biomass development is circulated between the 1st and a 2nd digester. The beetroot material is introduced near the top of the 2nd digester and the fermentation gas is recovered from the top of both digesters. The process may employ thermophilic or mesophilic anaerobic microorganisms. It avoids the microorganisms being dispersed in the pulp mass and carried outside the digester wit the mineral sludge.
