Abstract

Anti-ulcer compsns. contg. cpds. of formulae R-Z (Ia), RCOOR2 (Ib), H-(CH2-C(Me)(A)-CHB-CH2)nCH2COOR3 (Ic), R4CH2COOR5 (Id) or R6OH (Ie), are new, (where R is a satd. or unsatd. aliphatic gp. opt. substd. by OH or epoxy; Z is OH or COOR1; R1 is H, alkyl or R2; R2 is phytyl, isophytyl, dihydrophytyl, decaprenyl or solanesyl; n is an integer; A+B is a pair of H atoms or a bond, each A+B being independently a pair of H atoms or a bond when n =2 (sic); R3 is alpha-tocopheryl; R4 is phytyl, solanesyl or decaprenyl; R5 is H or alkyl; R6 is solanesyl, decaprenyl, isodecaprenyl, dihydrophytyl or hydrogenated decaprenyl). Several new cpds. of type (I) are specifically claimed. Cpds. (I) have high anti-ulcer activity and low toxicity (LD50 >=4 g kg); many have higher preventive and curative activity than gefarnate.
