Abstract

An imprint of the relief of a horizontal surface area is obtained by the action of gravity on an envelope (2) having a supple and flexible wall (1) and partially filled with a dividable particle material (3) of high density. an orifice (7) allows a tube (8) to be connected which is resistant to pressure effects. An isolating valve (9) allows the envelope interior to be subjected to pressure or vacuum conditions from a pump system. The pressure is controlled to esnure that the imprint is retained at particular depths of water. An anchoring attachment (5) allows the envelope to be positioned to obtain the required imprint (13). the system allows underwater assemblies to be exchanged or repaired by obtaining the shape and relative measurements for examination on the surface.
