Abstract

Device for taking casts or impressions, comprises a bag with a flexible wall and contg. a material which can pack against the shape of the flexible wall to form a rigid mass if air is evacuated from within the bag via a suitable tube and valve. Pref. the complete bag is impermeable and flexible and can form a thin self-supporting shell over any surface against which it is in contact when evacuated. Pref. the material inside comprises a powder or small spheres, and the bags esp. incorpororate a filter to prevent escape of the solids. Used to make a rigid mould for mfg. positive cast reproductions of same surface. The mould is readily made flexible and removed by readmission of air. Arrangement is suitable for medical or surgical casts, for making copies or models for design or artistic purposes, toys, etc. The bag may have a preformed shape for specific purposes, e.g. convex. A model of a surface can be produced rapidly and under completely dry concns. and with only slight press. on the surface outside the bag.
