Abstract

The cavity wall construction includes an inner leaf (6, 7, 10) with perforations (5) effecting communication between the cavity and the interior of the building. In traversing the perforations, the incoming air (1) absorbs heat from the inner leaf. The cavity may have an indirect communication with the outer air e.g. an air brick in the top of a gable end, and the inner leaf may have insulating properties with the perforations, normal to the major wall plane. The size of the perforations is governed by air change volumetrics, and their distribution may ensure the diffusion of incoming air in the internal vol. A foil liner (10), insulating blockwork (7) and plasterboard (6) to the interior may be included.
