Abstract

Waste, esp. those resulting from the mfr. of clutch discs containing Canadian asbestos bonded by phenolic resin, and consisting of chippings and dust with an asbestos content of up to 20%, are mixed in the presence of water with clay for brick and tile mfr. The proportion of the asbestos contg. waste amts. of between 5 and 20% by wt. and the mixt. is processed normally, the mouldings being treated for 6-9 hrs. at a temp. not exceeding 900 degrees C. This destroys the asbestos reducing it to an innocuous cpd. of magnesium.
