Abstract

The ventilator permits air flow between a boat interior and the atmosphere. It consists of a covering dome (1), attached to a base plate (2), with an inlet pipe (4), connected to below-deck trunking. Radial openings (5) with spray deflectors (6, 9), are fitted at the base of the dome. If water enters the air passages, ball floats (14) rise and seat against the ball valve seats (15), creating a watertight seal, to prevent water entering the boat. If the boat heels over to an acute angle, or over-turns a weighted flap valve (19) closes, creating a water-tight seal.
