Abstract

Welding machine has a bed fitted with a stationary head-stock carrying a motor rotating a surface plate. A second surface plate is mounted on a tailstock, which can be driven along the bed of the machine by pneumatic cylinders. Each plate is fitted with a gear ring meshing with a pinion on a common shaft, so the rotation of 1st plate causes the rotation of the 2nd plate. Each plate carries a holder fitted with a slotted spring ring; and the tapering bores of the two rings are located on each side of the joint being welded to remove heat during the butt welding operation. Behind the sliding tailstock is a cradle formed by rollers and used to carry the welded sections of the bellows. Used e.g. for welding ring sections of bellows together, where the rings are 200-800 mm dia. and are made of stainless steel, with wall thickness 0.1-0.3 mm.
