Abstract

The cylinder lock is operated by the code indented edge of an inserted key blade. It uses two bit (7, 13) recoil sprung (12) sliding locking pins to connect a rotor (3) to a stator (1). The pins slide in aligned radial bars (6, 10) in the rotor and stator, the key aligning the bit interface (15) in the rotor to the stator interface (2) to provide relative rotation. A movement in excess of one rotor turn is necessary to effect bolt release. The mechanism permits key removal whilst allowing return rotor movement without a key or with a different key. The latter key will not effect release and the mechanism uses a sec. line of stator bores (16) on a rotor radius at the release point. Certain of the sec. bores are oversize, contain a spring piston (17), and allow prim. key removal whilst returning the bit interface to release. One sec. bore is the same size as the prim. bores, requiring a sec. key to effect return.
