Abstract

Continuous elimination of H2S from gas currents comprises treatment with an aq. soln. of a polyvalent metal chelate and oxidn. with a gas contg. molecular O2, sepn. of the liq. phase contg. the soln. of the chelate, purification of the liquid using a sulphur removing materialwhich is slightly or insoluble in water, and of different density from that of the soln., and recycling the purified soln. of chelate. Specifically, after sepn. of the liq. phase contg. the chelate, the liquid is intimately mixed with the S removing agent prior to decanting, during which the aq. chelate, the S-bearing agent and the S separate into 3-phases. The sepd. S-removing material is recycled from the decantation to the mixing step. Used in sepn. H2S from air, methane, natural gas or various refinery gases. Then efficient sepn. is obtd. without formation of colloidal S.
