Abstract

An extrusion manifold (1) for producing laminated flows from thermoplastics melts (D1-D4) supplied by two or more extruders comprises a series of discs having transverse and facial passaged aligned so as to introduce each melt radially via one or ore facial passages leading to a common axial outlet passage. The matls. are combined as melts radially superimposed melts and solidified after lamination. Used for mfg. sheet or other profiles laminated in symmetric or asymmetric structures other than coaxial annular layers, by supplying laminated melt flows to a single profile extrusion dia. The appts. is simpler and more compact than use of independa t dies to produce individual extrudates for post-extrusion lamination. The thicknesses of individual constituent layers can be changed by adjusting (by temperature or pressure) the relative melt flow input rates of the component materials. The discs can be interchanged or assembled in various patterns, providing continuity of the transverse passages is maintained. Individual discs can be machined to suit the radial flow characteristics of a specific material without affecting the other components of the manifold.
