Abstract

The deflection loading measurement device is prone against its calibration deteriorating with time due to wear. It may be applied particularly to heavy goods road and rail wagons using leaf springs as a load limit check. The vertical movement of a rigid horizontal member (15) which is not a structural part of the load bearing mechanism, is measured. A scale, carrying convenient reference marks and attached to a unit sited on the axle box of the wagon, is visible through a window (20) in the horizontal bar. The relative movement of a pointer against the scale indicates the amt. of spring settlement. The horizontal bar is mounted on the leaf spring bearing points without constraining their rotation.
