Abstract

The mitred corner joint is used with plastics rectangular hollow section members (2, 3) in the fabrication of window frames, each member end being stiffened by a similarly mitred insert (5), and the assembly being fixed by screws through to the inserts. Two screws (14, 15) are used in a perpendicular relationship, each passing transversely through one member to enter a longitudinally aligned anchor sleeve (10 or 11) in the other section with their heads (24, 25) resting on the outer wall of the former. The inserts may, thus have an I-section with square internal flange and returns (6), inc. an integral longitudinal split sleeve (10, 11) on each side of the web (9). Alternatively, two round section sleeve formations may be built centrally into the web, one behind the other, the sleeves being symmetrically disposed relative to two perpendicular axis (8, 12) of the section.
