Abstract

The snowchain is tightened on the wheel by a spring loaded ratchet clamp (6). This clamp is hooked into the ends of the chain pattern. It is designed to pull the ends together and secures them when the vehicle is driven off. The clamp enables the chain to be fitted without lifting the wheel off the ground, and with a minimum of manual effort and dexterity. The clamp is pulled out to its fullest extent and locked by the ratchet. Any lateral displacement, when the wheel is driven, causes the ratchet to drop out and allow the spring to pull in the clamp to the second ratchet tooth.
