Abstract

Insecticidal and fungicidal fumigant comprises an insecticidal or fungicidal component having a vapour pressure of =1 mmHg at 20 degrees C and an organic cpd. having a b.pt. of >=100 degrees C and having a vapour pressure higher than the insecticidal or fungicidal component supported on a carrier. The active component can be vaporised at a relatively lower temp. (at which the active cpd. is not decomposed). Typically, allethrin, mixed with liq. paraffin, can be vaporised at a lower temp. and the decomposition rate is reduced. The process can be applied not only to pyrethroid type insecticides, but also to organic chlorine type, organic phosphate type and carbamate type insecticides and fungicides. The organic cpds. include, e.g., liq. paraffin; fatty (>=10C)hydrocarbons; halogenated (>=2C)hydrocarbons; and >=3C)alcohols and ester. Carriers include, e.g., activated carbon, clay and white carbon. The amt. of organic cpd. is 1/5 the amt. of the active cpd.
