Abstract

The magnetic method and device are for monitoring the characteristics of objects and involves magnetising the objects perpendicular to the monitoring surfaces and measuring the tangential component of the magnetic field strength using a magnetic sensor. They permit continuous monitoring of objects of complicated shape and of any dimensions, e.g. of ferromagnetic objects. The magnetisation of the object, excitation of the sensor, scanning of the object surface, and measurement of the tangential component gradients take place simultaneously.
