Abstract

Walls, ceilings, floors etc. are made soundproof with a layer of rubber particles bonded with a phenolic resin dissolved in an aq. alcoholic soln. contg. a acid polymersn. catalyst. The particles are pref. of size =4 mm. The layer compsn. pref. comprises 60-75% rubber granules, 20-30% phenolic resin, 2-10% acid catalyst and 0-5% water and it pref. also contains a swelling agent. The layer provides excellent insulation against noise esp. impact noises, e.g. in collective buildings. It may be applied in situ as a fluid mixt. or as prefabricated plates reinforced with fibre.
