Abstract

The connection is for elements of EHT installations, such as circuit breakers using insulating columns, in areas subject to severe seismic shocks. Connection is maintained under large amplitude, high frequency, mechanical oscillation by a flexible conductor (3) running inside a helical spring conductor (4). Further flexible braided conductors (13) from jumpers from individual turns of the spring to the inner conductor to prevent parasitic resonant oscillation at radio frequencies. The metals for the various conductors are chosen to avoid galvanic action between them. The spring extending by about 10% under a 50kgm load, may be a polynethylene acetyl homo - polymer wound on a 20cm mandrel with a pitch of 10cm, metalised with a 10 micron tin layer for operation at 800kV and 2500 to 3000 Amps.
