Abstract

Each section (2) of the superconducting coil has a series-connected disconnector (3) with a controlled shunt (4) of superconducting material and normal zone detection unit (5) connected in parallel. The coil is inductively coupled to a heat-insulated compartment (7) cooled to cryogenic temperature. The compartment contains the disconnectors and at least one coil (8) of normal metal and a jumper (9) of superconducting material making up a closed electric circuit. Each controlled shunt and the jumper is fitted with a control winding (11, 12). The control windings are connected to the normal zone detection units.
