Abstract
The plant installation comprises two horizontal, adjacent channels which are supplied with seawater etc. to be desalinated. The first of these channels is covered by a transparent, pref. glass-roofed structure to contain a solar evaporating chamber over the first channel. The head space of the evaporating chamber has a transfer passage communicating with a pipe submergen in water in the second channel. As the exterior of the pipe is water-cooled, vapour arriving via the transfer passage is condensed in the pipe and provides a supply of purified water for collection in a reservoir. An optical system e.g. compressing a Fresnel lens, is pref used to focus solar radiation on the evaporating chamber. Water gates are pref fitted to both inlet and outlet of both channels. Pref the two channels both run parallel to a supply canal from which the channels can be supplied with sea water etc via water gates.
