Abstract

Mechanical vibration at frequencies linked with motor speed is detected in a monolithically mounted unit employing a piezo-electric transducer. The electrical signal is fed to a multi-stage active band pass filter and amplifier before passing through a limiter and shaper circuit. Following a voltage to frequency converter calibration is achieved by comparing the signal frequency with a range of presettable frequencies obtained from an oscillator circuit. The calibrator output is power amplified to drive a moving coil meter. The unreliability and inconvenience associated with revolution counters mechanically linked to an internal moving part is avoided in a device which may be mounted in a variety of accessible points on the vehicle. The system eliminates problems of wear and high voltage.
