Abstract

Capacitor comprises a thin dielectric film between two electrode plates, the dielectric film being a thin layer of metallic oxide and a thin layer of an organic body the thickness of which is much less than that of the oxide. The oxide film is 100-300 A thick and the organic film 10-100A, and is pref. a monomolecular layer. Its compsn. is pref. along chain aliphatic cpd. terminated by a hydrophilic group esp. by behenic, hydroxybehinic, stearic, or hydroxy tetracosanoic acids or are of their salts esp. Ca salt. The metallic oxide is pref. Al2o3. By utilising the advantages of ceramic oxides and organic cpds. together, the capacitor exhibits high capacity C per unit surfaces area, and a high valve of the product CV5 where V5 is the service voltage. The capacitor is pref. for use in microelectronics.
