Abstract

The fruits are loaded into a feed hopper which is open-bottomed and almost submerged in water in a wash tank. More water is pumped into the lower part of the wash tank to stir the fruits gently and cause washed fruits to overflow on to a draining grill. Over flowing water also drains through the grill and is channeled back to a storage tank. The pump draws water from the storage tank via a rotary filter. The hopper is pref submerged to an extent which ensures that fruit is soaked in the hopper before moving into the wash tank. An air blower pref directs an air current across fruit passing over the drainage grill. A non-return value is pref fitted between the pump outlet and the wash tank. Used for washing olives for an olive oil factory or soft fruits for a jam factory. Gentle action provides effective washing without damaging the fruit, so the yield is higher than with earlier washing machines. Water is recycled for economy. The filter rotates to be cleaned without stopping the washer.
