[Also in Division B1] A travelling band filter, which forms part of a machine for washing cooking utensils and filters the washing liquid as it passes round a closed circuit, comprises an endless band 74 of stainless steel or plastics mesh, entrained round a support 64 so that its operative upper run is flat and its lower run sags, as shown, to facilitate its removal from the support (Fig. 6, not shown) and a spray pipe 108 which directs liquid, compressed air or steam on to the underside of the band to remove solids therefrom where the band passes from the upper run to the lower. The solids are blown or washed into compartment 116 (Fig. 2, not shown) which may contain a removable foraminous basket 112 or may drain directly into a sewer and also serves as an overflow to limit the liquid level in tank 40. Support 64 comprises two parallel brass tracks 66 with down-curved ends 68 and may be lifted from members 62 (Fig 7, not shown). Band 74 comprises spaced angle members 76 riveted thereto (Figs. 5A, 5B, not shown), which are engaged by a reciprocating pawl 84, 86 to drive the band anticlockwise in a stepwise manner. In Fig. 1, a foraminous band 18 carries utensils through a housing 12 between downward and upwardly direct washing sprays 28, 30, washing liquid drains through the band and through aperture 56 on to filtering band 74, and is recirculated to the sprays by an immersed pump 36. Pawl 84, 86 driving band 74 is driven through various chains and cogs by the motor 44 which drives band 18, but may alternatively by driven by a separate motor (Fig. 10, not shown) or by a hydraulic or pneumatic reciprocating motor (Fig. 9, not shown). In Fig. 11 (not shown) the utensils are hung on a vertically oriented endless band (18a), in Fig. 12 (not shown) they are supported on a rotating table (160) and in Fig. 13 (not shown) they are contained in a rotary drum (180). In all these cases washing sprays are directed on to the moving utensils and the dirty wash liquid is filtered by a travelling band, as described, and recirculated.
